It's been a week since the ICE raids in Omaha Nebraska, but its repercussions are a ripple on the never-ending ocean. It's just a matter of time before those ripples become raging waves, and you can already see the uprising across the country. An unknown future lies ahead, but I think the consensus is that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Can we come up with a solution for those that have been in the country for years and no criminal record?
Raw emotions have set across the city - Fear, anger, sadness, frustration, stress, uncertainty. This is no way to live. Even on a regular day, undocumented immigrants live always looking over their shoulder, always on survival mode. I know we knew the risk we took by coming over the way we did, but 99% of the time, it was out of necessity. The path to legal status is so long and expensive that it's not achievable for most of them. Then, there are the people who had the luck to start their way towards a stable spot in the country, but they're still in the process, the waiting game bringing anxiety every day that passes without updates of their case.
We have the DACA recipients, the young first generations, the refugees, and many more whose lives will be turned upside down with everything coming from the White House and its man child they have as POTUS for the next four years. Undocumented immigrants have been around for years, why haven't been a resolution that's a win-win for both groups? There has to be one. And for those that keep saying, "I don't mind immigrants as long as they do it the right way." please read again the second paragraph of this post.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share my two cents. And for everyone peacefully standing up and speaking out for the voiceless, thank you. And the ones rioting out there, stay safe, fight the good fight, don't get lost, and don't forget the reason you're fighting for.
